Kharmas 2026-2027: Dates When Marriages Are Not Held

Kharmas (also called Malmas or Dhanurmas) is the month when the Sun is in Dhanu (Sagittarius) or Meena (Pisces), the signs ruled by Jupiter. Marriages, griha pravesh, mundan and other auspicious beginnings are traditionally not held during Kharmas.

The current Kharmas begins at Wed, 16 Dec 2026, 10:25 IST and ends with Makar Sankranti at Thu, 14 Jan 2027, 21:10 IST.

Kharmas Dates 2026-2027

Period	Begins (IST)	Ends (IST)
Dhanu Kharmas	Wed, 16 Dec 2026, 10:25	Thu, 14 Jan 2027, 21:10
Meena Kharmas	Mon, 15 Mar 2027, 07:00	Wed, 14 Apr 2027, 15:28

What Is Avoided During Kharmas

Weddings, engagements, griha pravesh, mundan, upanayana, and buying land or a new house are usually postponed. Daily puja, charity, Surya worship, japa, and pilgrimage are encouraged, and Dhanurmas is an especially devotional month in South Indian temples.

When Weddings Resume

Marriage muhurats resume after Makar Sankranti, subject to other factors such as Jupiter and Venus being visible (not combust). See the Marriage Muhurat 2027 shortlist.

Dates and times are calculated with Swiss Ephemeris (Lahiri ayanamsa) for the place stated on this page. See our methodology.
