Dev Deepawali, the "Diwali of the gods", is celebrated on Kartik Purnima, most famously along the ghats of Varanasi where lakhs of lamps are lit at dusk. It also marks Tripurari Purnima, Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasura.
Because the lamps are lit in the evening, the date follows the Purnima present during pradosh kaal (the 2 hours 24 minutes after sunset) in Varanasi.
