Gujarati New Year 2026: Bestu Varas Date, Vikram Samvat 2083 and Panchang
Gujarati New Year 2026 (Bestu Varas) date, Kartika Shukla Pratipada timing, Vikram Samvat 2083, Govardhan Puja and Annakut.
Gujarati New Year, called Bestu Varas or Nutan Varsh, begins the Kartikadi Vikram Samvat year on Kartika Shukla Pratipada, the day after Diwali Lakshmi Puja in most years. In 2026 it begins Vikram Samvat 2083.
The date below is for the Pratipada tithi present at sunrise in Delhi. When Amavasya is still running at the next sunrise, a gap day (padtar divas) falls between Diwali and the new year.
Govardhan Puja and Annakut
Govardhan Puja and Annakut are observed on the same Pratipada in North and West India. Temples prepare a mountain of food offerings (annakut) for Krishna, remembering the lifting of Govardhan hill.
How the New Year Is Celebrated
Families visit temples early, greet elders with "Saal Mubarak" or "Nutan Varshabhinandan", and exchange sweets. Business families who performed Chopda Pujan on Diwali open their new account books for the year.
Dates and times are calculated with Swiss Ephemeris (Lahiri ayanamsa) for the place stated on this page. See our methodology.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is Gujarati New Year 2026?
Gujarati New Year 2026 (Bestu Varas) is on Tuesday, 10 November 2026, Kartika Shukla Pratipada at sunrise.
Which Vikram Samvat year begins on Gujarati New Year 2026?
Vikram Samvat 2083 begins in the Kartikadi (Gujarati) reckoning. North Indian Chaitradi calendars start the same samvat number at Chaitra Shukla Pratipada earlier in the year.
Why is there sometimes a gap day after Diwali?
If Amavasya is still active at the next sunrise, that day is not Pratipada at sunrise, so the new year moves one day later.
