Pongal 2027 dates: Thai Pongal on Friday, 15 January 2027, with Bhogi, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal, based on the Sun's entry into Makara (Thai month).
Thai Pongal 2027 falls on Friday, 15 January 2027, the first day of the Tamil month Thai, when the Sun enters Makara. The four-day harvest festival thanks the Sun, cattle and nature for the year's crop.
The Sun enters Makara at Thu, 14 Jan 2027, 21:10 IST. Under the Tamil rule, a solar month begins the same day only if the ingress happens before sunset in Tamil Nadu (calculated here for Chennai).
